Olomouc - an unforgettable experience.

It was winter 1997 when I surfed throw the Internet and founded the webpage of the University of Olomouc in the Czech Republic. On the webpage I read about the Summer Workshop of Internet programming, which is organized by the University. Immediately I was interested on it and took the first news. For some reasons I could not ask to participate on 1997, but I had the idea to participate on 1998.
04.11.1997 Today I was with my girlfriend Jitka on the University of Olomouc and I have spoken with David Skoupil about the Summer Workshop 1998. At the End of the encounter, Mr. Skoupil promised me, that I can participate to the Workshop in June 1998.
13.02.1998 I received a letter from David Skoupil, which was the confirmation of the participation to the Summer Workshop 1998.
29.05.1998 Today is the big day. I started from Bozen with my car at 12.30 o'clock. On the road sometimes it rained, but so strong, that I could not drive quickly, only ca. 20 - 30 km/h. On the czech border I have had no problems - after 8 minutes I have crossed it. After Midnight I arrived at Radslavice, where I stayed for two days. It is about 28 km far from Olomouc.
01.06.1998 I arrived about 11 o'clock to Olomouc. Mr. Skoupil was waiting for me. He showed me the Computerlab and the room of the Server. At 2 o'clock p.m. we met the american students. Afterwards we were accommodated in the dormitory. In the Evening we had a dinner all together.
I was very happy to be there, because it was very pleasant. The meal was very good and the people are very friendly. Olomouc has about 100.000 inhabitants and almost no tourists. Marvellous!!! The first foreign auto I saw after three weeks! Ones we were all together in a pub and drunk a glas of beer. We spoke English. A man, who entered the pub was looking very surprised, when he heard us speaking English.
It was interesting to see how the tramways are painted. They are all different. In other cities, like Munich, they are all painted with the same color, e.g. blue. If old or fragile people get in the tramway, then young people make place for the newcomer. In the westside of Europe it is out of use!
06.06.1998 We visited Castel Bouzov. It is very interesting and very nice. A big surprise was for me, that there was an Oldtimermeeting and a FIAT 850 Spider II was present, too. I have spoken with the owner and his wife and we have exchanged our address. The next day I have visited with Mr. Skoupil, JJ and Mary Lou two caves. It was a nice trip, even it was try. The first cave was smaller, in return with a very big hall. In this hall there is a very singular acoustics. Sometimes they organize concerts with 500 listeners. The second cave was bigger and with an underground canal. Little boats navigate on it. In the morning before we started, Mr. Skoupil told us, that during the comunisttime the dormitory and some other buildings in the neighborhood belonged to the Russians. When they went away, they took everything with them, even the windows and doors! That is the reason why the buildings are in a terrible state of decay and have to be restored.
12.06.1998 At 10 o'clock in the morning there was a very special party: there was the handing over of the insignia by the university of Innsbruck to the university of Olomouc. I was there with Mr. Skoupil and Mrs. Green.
17.06.1998 Today we visited the brewery of Litovel, my favorite czech beer.
26.06.1998 The End has arrived: we were dismissed by the vice-rector. Each of us received a diploma with a report. My heart was very sad, when I left Olomouc, because a wonderful time was over.
